For one hour, we’ll gather together to look at water in art, play with flow and fluidity, and turn that same attention toward our own inner currents. Through simple guided activities inspired by museum visits, we’ll practice the art of slow looking: outward and inward, with curiosity and openness.

This workshop will have you engaging with artwork as a way to explore the experience of being alive. You’ll leave ready to see your daily life with fresh eyes.

It’s been a dream of mine to host gatherings more regularly.

For the past year or so, I’ve been tinkering with the idea for a series of slow looking workshops—restorative hour-long sessions to gather as a group and let ourselves sink into the present moment in a deeper way, each session inspired by a different theme.

And so… I’m hosting the first one!

The first slow looking retreat will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 1pm - 2pm EDT, Montreal time.

Looking at Light is a workshop for exploring the particular quality of attention that opens up when we let ourselves stop and really see.

For one hour, we’ll slow down together—looking at an artwork, playing with light and shadows, and turning that same attention toward our own inner landscapes. Through simple guided activities inspired by museum visits, we’ll practice the art of slow looking: outward and inward, with curiosity and openness.

No art expertise required. Come as you are.

I hosted a quick 20-minute slow looking session for a group of writers last week, and I was reminded 1) how much I love holding this kind of space, and 2) how important it is to take the time to let ourselves be held by the aliveness around us.

Because slow looking—opening ourselves up to the present moment—is really about cultivating relationships. With ourselves, the world around us, each other, and our very own lives. This can be a source of resourcing for doing the work that is ours to do.

I want Looking for Light to feel like drinking a big glass of water.
